Location: Remote (Global)
Employment Type: Co-Development / Partnership
Compensation: Profit Sharing Agreement (6.0%)
About the Position
Flawky Studios is seeking a tactical Senior Game Designer to define the rules, mechanics, and “game feel” of our unannounced Action-RPG. We are building an “Indo-Gothic” world a fusion of Dark Fantasy architecture and corrupted Indian aesthetics. We need a designer who can translate this vision into compelling gameplay loops. You will be the architect of the player’s journey, from the math behind the sword swings to the complexity of the skill trees. Note: You will collaborate closely with the Senior Gameplay Programmer, who will handle the C++ implementation. Your job is to provide the logic, data structures, and prototypes that make the systems fun.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core Systems Design
• The Game Loop: Architect the core gameplay loop, ensuring the cycle of “Explore > Combat > Loot > Upgrade” remains engaging for 20+ hours of gameplay.
• Economy & Progression: Design complex RPG systems including Skill Trees, Attribute Scaling, Loot Tables, and Currency economies using spreadsheets to ensure long-term balance.
2. Combat Mechanics & Balancing
• “Reactive Stance” Combat: Define the logic for our unique stance-switching system. You will determine the frame data (Startup, Active, Recovery), parry windows, and stamina costs to ensure combat feels weighty and fair.
• Enemy Design: Design distinct enemy archetypes and boss encounters, defining their attack patterns, AI behaviors, and weaknesses.
3. Prototyping & Implementation
• Unreal Engine 5: You will not just write documents. You must be comfortable inside the engine, using Blueprints to prototype mechanics and Data Tables to tweak balance variables in real-time.
• Tuning: Iterate endlessly on the “feel” of the game (Camera shake, Hit-stop, Controller vibration) to ensure visceral feedback.
4. Documentation (The GDD)
• Living Documents: Maintain a clear, actionable Game Design Document (GDD).
• Communication: Act as the bridge between the creative vision and the programming team, translating abstract ideas into technical requirements.
Qualifications
• Experience: You should be an experienced Game Designer with a strong portfolio of shipped titles or playable prototypes.
• Engine Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 (specifically Blueprints and Data Assets).
• Math & Logic: Ability to balance complex game economies and combat statistics using Excel/Google Sheets.
• Genre Passion: Deep understanding of Action-RPGs. You know why a mechanic feels good.
Compensation & Partnership
This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 6.0% the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release.
Creative Ownership: As a core member of the design team, you will have a direct impact on the creative direction of the project.
Attribution: You will be fully credited as Senior Game Designer in the game and marketing materials.
