About the Position

Flawky Studios is seeking a visceral Sound Designer to build the acoustic reality of our unannounced Action-RPG.
While the Music Composer handles the emotion, you handle the Physicality and the Engine. You will be responsible for the entire Audio Pipeline. You will design the SFX yourself, but you will also serve as the “Audio Integrator,” taking the Composer’s music tracks and implementing them into Unreal Engine 5 (MetaSounds) to create a dynamic, reactive soundscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Combat Audio (The “Crunch”)
 Visceral SFX: Design high-fidelity sounds for combat impacts, gore, blade sheathing, and magical abilities. The audio must convey weight and lethality.
 Feedback: Create distinct audio cues for critical hits, parries, and guard breaks to provide instant gameplay feedback to the player.

2. Music Implementation (Integration)
 The “Audio Engine”: You will collaborate closely with the Music Composer. You are responsible for taking their provided stems/loops and implementing them into the engine.
 Dynamic Systems: Build the logic (using MetaSounds or Quartz) to smoothly transition the music based on gameplay states (e.g., fading seamlessly from “Exploration” to “High-Intensity Combat” when an enemy is aggroed).

3. Environmental Ambience
 
 The “Corruption”: Design the shifting soundscapes of the world. As the “Corruption Meter” rises, the ambient audio must shift from natural (wind, birds) to oppressive (drones, whispers, distorted winds).
 Foley: Record and implement realistic footsteps (switching materials based on physical surfaces like grass, stone, wood) and cloth movement.

4. Technical Optimization
 Mixing: Set up Sound Classes and Mix Modifiers (Ducking) to ensure combat sounds cut through the music, and dialogue cuts through everything.
 Performance: Manage audio memory budgets and attenuation settings.

Qualifications

 • Audio Middleware: Proficiency with Unreal Engine 5 Audio (MetaSounds experience is highly preferred).
 • Sound Design: A reel demonstrating high-quality asset creation (Synthesis and Foley).
 • Implementation Logic: Experience setting up dynamic audio systems (e.g., music switches, RTPCs, or parameter-based mixing).
 Collaboration: Ability to work with a Composer to ensure their vision is translated correctly into the technical engine.

Compensation & Partnership

This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
 • Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 3.0% of the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release.
 • Creative Attribution: Under our Idea Attribution Program, unique audio concepts or atmospheric ideas you implement will be formally credited to you.
