Employment Type: Contract / Partnership
Compensation: Profit Sharing Agreement (7.0%)
About the Position
Flawky Studios is seeking a highly skilled C++ / Blueprint Programmer to serve as a primary technical partner for our unannounced Action-RPG built in Unreal Engine 5.
This is not a task-execution role. We are looking for a Systems Architect. You will work in tandem with the Game Director on Combat and AI, but you will take Sole Technical Ownership of the game’s Quest and Mission infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quest & Mission System (Sole Ownership)
You will have full autonomy to architect and implement the game’s narrative logic from the ground up.
• Architecture: Design a scalable, data-driven Quest System (utilizing DataAssets/DataTables) that handles main missions, side quests, and dynamic events.
• Logic: Implement complex branching logic, objective tracking, and fail states.
• Integration: Ensure the Quest System communicates flawlessly with the Save System, UI (Journal), and World State (e.g., changing the environment when a quest is completed).
2. Collaborative Combat Development
You will architect the combat experience directly with the Game Director.
• Hit Registration: Joint implementation of precise hit-traces and damage calculation logic.
• State Management: Architect animation state machines for fluid transitions (Parries, Staggers, Dodges).
3. Advanced AI Architecture (Co-Dev)
You will share the responsibility of designing the game’s artificial intelligence.
• Companion AI: Develop intelligent ally behavior that navigates complex terrain.
• Boss Encounters: Collaborative design of multi-phase boss patterns and reaction logic.1
4. Joint Development of RPG Systems
You will work alongside the Lead Developer to architect the core RPG backend.
• Inventory & Economy: Co-develop the data structures for item management and looting.
• UI Implementation: Work together to wire up backend logic to frontend UMG widgets.
Qualifications
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of C++ and Blueprints within Unreal Engine 5.
• Quest Design: Proven experience building state-based quest or mission systems (handling dependencies, save states, and UI updates).
• System Design: Experience building scalable, data-driven frameworks.
• Collaboration: Experience using Source Control (Git/Perforce) and working in a distributed remote team.
Compensation & Partnership
This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
• Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 7.0% of the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release. The final percentage is contractually guaranteed based on contribution.
