About the Position

Flawky Studios is seeking a technical 3D Gameplay Animator to ground our characters in reality using a Hybrid Workflow (Mocap + Keyframe).
While the Combat Animator handles the fight, you handle the Flow. You are responsible for the seamless traversal of the world, utilizing Motion Capture data to create realistic movement, while using your technical skills to blend it perfectly in Unreal Engine 5. You will also handle the cinematic performances for our cutscenes and narrative “Echoes.”

Key Responsibilities

1. Locomotion & Mocap Integration
• Mocap Processing: Clean and process raw motion capture data for core movement sets (Walk, Run, Sprint, Stops, Pivots). You must ensure the data loops perfectly and feels responsive, not “floaty.”
• Retargeting: Retarget Mocap data onto Custom/MetaHuman skeletons using MotionBuilder or Control Rig.
• Traversal: Animate fluid traversal mechanics (Climbing, Vaulting, Sliding) by blending mocap bases with hand-keyed adjustments to fit level geometry.

2. Cinematic & Narrative Animation
• Cutscene Performance: Assemble and refine full-body Mocap data for Cinematic Cutscenes (e.g., Chapter 1 Intro). You will enhance the acting, clean up jitter, and ensure characters make proper eye contact.
• “Psychic Echoes”: Animate the ghostly story reenactments found in the world. These rely heavily on Mocap acting to convey emotion and history without dialogue.

3. World Interactions (Hand-Keyed)
 • Object Interaction: Create precise, hand-keyed animations for interacting with the environment (e.g., pulling levers, opening doors, looting items) where Mocap is often too imprecise.
 • Sync-Points: Ensure hand placements line up perfectly with in-game props using IK.

4. Engine Implementation
 • State Machines: Work within Unreal Engine 5 to set up Animation Blueprints and Blend Spaces.
 • IK Setup: Configure Foot IK and Hand IK to ensure characters ground properly on uneven terrain.

Qualifications

 • Hybrid Workflow: Experience cleaning Motion Capture data (MotionBuilder/Maya) and blending it with Hand-Keyed layers.
 • Technical Animation: Strong understanding of Animation Blueprints, Blend Spaces, and State Machines in Unreal Engine 5.
 • Cinematic Eye: Ability to edit and refine Mocap performances for narrative cutscenes.
 • Body Mechanics: A reel demonstrating a deep understanding of weight, balance, and realistic human motion.

Compensation & Partnership

This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
 • Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 4.0% of the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release.
 • Creative Attribution: Under our Idea Attribution Program, unique interaction ideas or narrative acting choices you make will be credited to you.
