About the Position
Flawky Studios is seeking a versatile 3D Character & Prop Artist to define the visual identity of the heroes, villains, and enemies of Shadows of Eternia.
We are leveraging Epic’s MetaHuman framework to maximize efficiency. Therefore, this role is not about sculpting base anatomy; it is about Character Design, Costuming, and Armory. You will function as the game’s digital costumer and weaponsmith, transforming MetaHuman bases into unique, battle-hardened warriors using custom high-fidelity assets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Character Customization (MetaHuman Pipeline)
• Workflow: Utilize MetaHuman Creator and Quixel Bridge to generate diverse character bases.
• Costume & Cloth: Design and model high-fidelity clothing using Marvelous Designer or standard sculpting workflows, ensuring proper fit and drape over the MetaHuman rig.
• Armor & Hard Surface: Create intricate armor sets (Helmets, Cuirasses, Greaves) that fit the game’s “Indo-Gothic” / Dark Fantasy aesthetic.
2. Weapon Design & Modeling
• Arsenal Creation: Model and texture the game’s weaponry, including realistic swords, axes, and firearms, as well as stylized magical implements.
• Functionality: Ensure weapons are modeled with animation in mind (proper pivot points, separable magazines/parts for reloading or transformation).
3. Texturing & Material Definition
• PBR Workflow: Masterful use of Substance Painter to create realistic materials (worn leather, battered steel, oxidized copper, skin) that match the high fidelity of the MetaHuman skin shaders.
• Consistency: Maintain a consistent texel density and visual style across all characters and items.
4. Implementation & Optimization
• Rigging/Skinning: properly skin custom meshes (clothes/armor) to the MetaHuman skeleton in Unreal Engine 5 so they animate without clipping.
• Optimization: Create efficient LODs (Level of Detail) to ensure performance during heavy combat scenes.
Qualifications
• Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating high-quality Hard Surface Modeling (Armor/Weapons) and Cloth Simulation. Note: We prioritize gear design over organic anatomy sculpting for this role.
• MetaHuman Experience: Familiarity with the “Mesh to MetaHuman” workflow or general MetaHuman integration in UE5.
• Technical Proficiency: ZBrush, Maya/Blender, Marvelous Designer (Plus), and Substance Painter.
• Engine Skills: Experience importing skeletal meshes and setting up materials in Unreal Engine 5.
Compensation & Partnership
This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
• Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 5.5% of the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release.
• Creative Attribution: Under our Idea Attribution Program, unique character designs or weapon lore you create will be formally credited to you.
