Location: Remote (Global)
Employment Type: Contract / Partnership
Compensation: Profit Sharing Agreement (6.0%)
About the Position
Flawky Studios is seeking a visionary Level Designer with a strong eye for lighting and cinematography. You will act as the principal architect for our unannounced Action-RPG, taking ownership of the entire game world from the initial greybox to the final lighting pass.
This role bridges the gap between Gameplay Flow and Visual Storytelling. You will not only design the combat encounters but also the atmospheric exploration zones, narrative corridors, and environmental storytelling that bind the world together. Additionally, you will serve as the studio’s internal photographer for promotional materials.
Key Responsibilities
1. Holistic World Architecture
Take ownership of the level design pipeline for the entire game, ensuring a seamless player experience.
• Exploration & Narrative: Design atmospheric traversal zones that encourage exploration and environmental storytelling. You determine how the player moves through the history of the Citadel.
• Combat & Pacing: Craft complex combat arenas with verticality and cover, ensuring they flow naturally into and out of exploration sections without feeling like “video game boxes.”
• Navigation: Guide the player intuitively through complex environments using geometry, lighting cues, and landmarks.
2. Lighting & Atmosphere (Lumen)
You are responsible for the mood of the game.
• Dynamic Lighting: Masterful use of Lumen to create realistic, dramatic lighting scenarios for both interiors and exteriors.
• Atmospheric Storytelling: Implement the visual shifts required for the “Corruption” mechanic (changing skyboxes, fog density, and post-process volumes in real-time).
3. Cinematics & Sequencing
• Cutscene Setup: Use Unreal Sequencer to block out and light in-game cinematic moments (e.g., the Chapter 1 Intro).
• Camera Work: Set up camera rails and angles that emphasize the scale of the world and the history of Malachi.
4. Promotional Art & Capture
You will serve as the “Director of Photography” for the studio’s marketing efforts.
• Marketing Assets: Utilize the Movie Render Queue and High-Resolution Screenshot tools to capture “Bullshots” (marketing-grade screenshots) for social media, Steam store pages, and trailers.
• Composition: Apply photographic principles (Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Depth of Field) to showcase the game’s fidelity.
Qualifications
• Unreal Engine 5 Mastery: Deep experience with the Level Editor, Modeling Tools Mode, and Sequencer.
• Lighting Expertise: A portfolio demonstrating strong interior and exterior lighting skills using Lumen.
• World Building: Experience taking a level from a conceptual block-out to a polished, playable environment.
• Cinematography: Experience with camera lenses, framing, and shot composition.
Compensation & Partnership
This position is structured as a high-stake partnership.
• Profit Sharing: You will be awarded a legally binding share of 6.0% of the Game’s Net Profit following commercial release.
• Creative Attribution: Under our Idea Attribution Program, unique environmental storytelling ideas or level secrets you design will be formally credited to you.
